Nike DNA

AIGA Justified Competition

An older project of ours is back in the spotlight: Nike DNA has been honored by AIGA’s Justified competition! Our case study has just been published online, and we received some very flattering feedback from the jurors, one of whom said the “remarkably facile and engaging” website is “a great example of design being used to create effective and satisfying tools.”

Portland Mini Maker Faire

Our latest collaboration with The Coca-Cola Company recently went live! The context-aware Explorer mobile app is designed to complement a visit to the World of Coca-Cola, leveraging iBeacon technology for maximum engagement, shareability, and fun. Our project page has all the details.

Center for Civil and Human Rights

NCCHR Opening

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights opened today in Atlanta! Collaborating with our clients and partners, we designed and developed a series of interactive experiences that invite visitors deeper into the struggle for equality, opportunity, and fair treatment in the U.S. and around the world. A stunning space full of rich, diverse content, the museum is an important addition to Atlanta’s cultural landscape. We’re proud to be a part of it!

June Conferences

June is shaping up to be a busy month for our team, with a couple of notable speaking engagements right around the corner. On Thursday, June 26th, Web Technology Lead David Brewer will present at Open Source Bridge, where he’ll demonstrate how to use xmonad, a tiling window manager, to bend your desktop to your will. The very next day, as part of the Association for Community Excellence‘s 2014 conference, Creative Director David Waingarten and Experience Designer Kirsten Southwell will talk about their work on the Emerging Issues Commons and lead a workshop to help participants brainstorm their own educational and community-based interactive projects.

Portfolio Night 12

Chris Cobb, Creative Director at our New York studio, is participating in Portfolio Night 12, a terrific opportunity for young copywriters, art directors, and designers to spend a little time meeting with and learning from seasoned professionals. Chris will be in esteemed company, with representatives from many other creative agencies also expected to attend.

We’re always happy to see an older project receive new recognition: Triumph of the Winter Queen has earned a Gold Creativity Award in the Film and Video category!


Portland Presentations

Spring has sprung in our hometown, and a series of great speaking opportunities have cropped up right in our own backyard. First, on May 8th, our team will celebrate digital creativity with a demonstration of the Lyt prototype at the launch of Oregon Story Board‘s experimental work space at OMSI. The next day, Creative Director David Waingarten will discuss storytelling with transmedia at the Portland Documentary Summit. And on May 15th, Senior Experience Designer Norman Lau will participate in the Oregon Animation Industry Showcase at the Hollywood Theatre as part of the Northwest Animation Festival.

Communicator Awards

We’re ecstatic to have received four 2014 Communicator Awards! The Sesame Workshop Children’s Museum Interactive and Emerging Issues Commons Overture Film each earned Gold Awards of Excellence in their respective categories, and the Inventing Abstraction website and Ecological Urbanism App both received Silver Awards of Distinction.

Blurring the Lines Between Physical and Digital Worlds

Festivals & Conferences

Our team will be very busy over the next month, speaking at conferences and festivals around the world! On April 23rd, Lead Integration Engineer Matt Arnold will present how we’re bridging the divide between physical and digital worlds at FMX 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany. On May 7th in New York as part of The One Club’s Creative Week, Creative Director Daniel Meyers will moderate a panel discussion about integrating digital interventions into physical space to create responsive environments and infrastructures. Interactive Developer Chris Carlson will head to Santa Barbara May 12th to speak to members of the Media Arts and Technology program at UCSB. Finally, on May 16th, Creative Director David Waingarten and Senior Experience Designer Traci Sym are bound for Barcelona for OFFF, where Second Story will be a featured artist.

National Civil Rights Museum

National Civil Rights Museum

The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis opened its new permanent exhibition to the public on April 5th. Celebrated by media outlets from The New York Times to the NBC Nightly News, the exhibitry engages visitors of all ages with immersive interactives and moving stories of the fight for civil rights in America. We were privileged to design and develop a number of experiences for the museum, collaborating again with exhibit designers Howard+Revis. This project was a true labor of love for our dedicated team, and we’re beaming with pride over the end result.
