Date
September 2008Tags
This participatory Web site provides an unprecedented look at the peopling of California through personal stories of immigrants and refugees, from the state’s earliest days through the present time.
This bilingual site for the California Council for the Humanities contains a wealth of historical information about California immigration, including primary sources such as letters, photographs, and newspaper articles. Visitors can access dozens of articles about diverse cultures in a magazine-like format arranged across seven eras of the state’s evolution. Visitors are invited to add their stories along with supporting images to the site or link to personal video stories stored on YouTube. A wealth of educational materials collected by the council is available for teachers to download, including an 11th-grade curriculum on California immigration.
