The National Geography Standards come to life in diverse, eclectic galleries inside this immersive, virtual museum of fantastic interactive installations and devices.
Created in partnership with National Geographic and Worldcom, Xpeditions transforms the National Geography Standards into an immersive exploratory experience that inspires both young and old to think about the complexity of the world they live in. The site features a hands-on virtual museum that brings to life six geography themes using imaginative interactive devices, such as culture goggles and mind mappers, and more than 1,800 printable maps. Teachers will find more than 75 geography-based lesson plans and parents will enjoy a range of activities especially designed for families. The site redesign includes an integrated navigation system that utilizes database technology to bring the site’s breadth and depth to the surface, and promotes extensive cross-linking between sections. While the National Geography Standards become the unifying element in the navigation, each section includes several ways to navigate through the content depending on a visitor’s interests.

Internet Professional Publishers Association, Ace Awards, 1998[A]n absolutely stunning piece of work that straddles the line between commercialism and educational content...The information content is so perfectly presented that even the most dry bits of data, such as temperature and rainfall measurements, are interesting to look at and consider. Each individual exhibit is beautifully crafted...Technically, these are ideally composed. The bandwidth requirement is almost nothing and color selections are very intuitive.
PC Magazine, Online, PC Magazine Top 100, 1998There’s something for everyone in the family at this well-designed site,...whatever you do, don’t miss Xpeditions, a stunning series of interactive geography lessons that bring maps to life in amazing ways. You won’t find anything else like it online.
