Visitors to the Experience Music Project’ flash back to the psychedelic ’60s with this interactive interpretation of Seattle rock history.
Magical posters and authentic liquid lightshows tell the stories of five prominent Seattle bands and offer a behind-the-band look at the era’s psychedelic rock scene. Within the Lost Sounds interactive, visitors trace each band’s influences, claim to fame, line up, and “before” and “after” incarnations, while exploring this colorful branch of Seattle’s vibrant musical family tree. Lost Sounds combines a projected, full-screen liquid lightshow with animated poster-style art to capture the essence of the era’s rock concert experience. Each interactive, psychedelic rock “poster” is inspired by popular designs from the Fillmore and Avalon ballrooms. The posters feature an animated “magic window” that offers a peek into the past. Each projected video was custom created from lightshow footage and original band artifacts, with masks to create unusual window shapes.
